How to send event reminders in Eventonomy, step by step. Open Eventonomy, then Settings, then Messaging and find the card Event reminders. Reminders are on from the start: each person who is Going is emailed one day before the event and again one hour before, with nothing to set. For an online event the free reminder already carries the button to join. Eventonomy Pro adds the box Send reminders this many hours before the event starts, where you type your own hours, an Event reminder template you can edit, and SMS reminders through Twilio. Then check Setup & Health to see that background tasks and email are working.

In this tutorial you will see how Eventonomy reminds people about an event, and what you can change. You need the free Eventonomy plugin. Steps two to four need Eventonomy Pro. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Find Event reminders. Set the timing. See the reminder email. See the SMS settings. Then check reminders can go out. Step one. Find Event reminders. In your WordPress admin, open Eventonomy, then Settings, then Messaging. Find the card that reads, Event reminders, On. Reminders are on from the day you install the plugin. Each person who is Going gets an email before the event starts. In the free plugin there is nothing to set. The email goes out one day before the start, and again one hour before. The box under the switch is Pro. The switch on the card turns reminders off for your whole site. Step two. Set the timing. This step needs Eventonomy Pro. Pro adds a box to the card: Send reminders this many hours before the event starts. It holds twenty-four and one: a day before, and an hour before. Type your own hours, with a comma between them. Forty-eight and two sends one reminder two days before, and one two hours before. Your hours take the place of the first pair. Then click Save changes. Step three. See the reminder email. Still with Pro, open Email templates in Settings, and choose Event reminder in the Email list. The Body is the wording of the reminder. Change it here, the same way as any other email. One placeholder is named join link. For an online event it becomes a button to join the event online. For any other event it adds nothing. Live preview, on the right, shows the reminder with your latest event. Step four. See the SMS settings. Text messages need Eventonomy Pro, and an account with Twilio. Back in Messaging, the card reads, SMS notifications, Off. Turn the switch on and three boxes open: Twilio Account SID, Twilio Auth Token, and Twilio from number. Texts stay off until all three are filled in and saved. Then the reminder also goes as a text, to people who gave a phone number. Leave the switch off until you have those three values. Step five. Check reminders can go out. A background task on your site sends the reminders. Open Setup and Health. Under System checks, find these rows. The row that starts, Background tasks, should read OK. If it shows a warning, reminders may not be going out, and the row says what to do. The row under it, Emails go through a mail service, should read OK as well. That is all five. Event reminders found, the timing set, the reminder email seen, the SMS settings seen, and the checks that let reminders go out. The people who are coming will be reminded before your event starts. Next in this series: Message your attendees.
