How to add search and filters to your events in Eventonomy, step by step. The Eventonomy Search & Filter block is already on your events page; for any other page, add the block above your events list or paste the shortcode [eventonomy_search]. Visitors search by word, filter by category, and filter by date with choices from Today to Custom dates. Filters work together, stay when the view changes, and Clear all removes them.
In this tutorial you will add search and filters to your events, so visitors can find an event by word, by category or by date. You need the free Eventonomy plugin. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Find the Search and Filter block. Search by word. Filter by category. Filter by date. Then combine and clear filters. Step one. Find the Search and Filter block. In your WordPress admin, open Eventonomy, then Blocks. Find Eventonomy Search and Filter. Your events page already has it. Used on names the pages that hold the block. For any other page, add it as a block above your events list, or paste its shortcode. It filters the events listed on the same page. Step two. Search by word. As a visitor, open your events page. The search box is at the top. Type a word, and the list changes as you type. Here, the word is print. The line above the events says how many match. Press Enter to apply a search at once. Step three. Filter by category. Beside the search box is a list that starts on All categories. It holds your event categories. Pick one, and only its events are listed. Here, Arts and Culture. The count now names the category. Step four. Filter by date. The last list starts on Any date. Its other choices are Today, Tomorrow, This weekend, This week, This month and Custom dates. Custom dates adds a From date and a To date. Set both, and the list shows the events between them. Here, the whole of November. Every event listed now takes place in that range. Step five. Combine and clear filters. Filters work together. Here the search is print, and the category is Arts and Culture. Switch the view, and the filters stay. This is the same result as a List. To start again, click Clear all, beside the filters. Every filter is removed, and all your events are listed again. That is all five. The Search and Filter block found, a search by word, a filter by category, a filter by date, and filters combined and cleared. Your visitors can now find the event they want.
