How to move events into Eventonomy from a file or another events plugin, step by step. Open Eventonomy, then Setup & Health and click the Importer tab. It reads a CSV file or an iCalendar (.ics) file or feed, and it can migrate events from EventON, Events Manager, Sugar Calendar, The Events Calendar and WP Event Manager when their data is still on the site. Only the title column is required in a CSV, and a sample file is there to start from. Upload & scan shows a report before anything is created, and importing the same file again skips rows that are already in.

In this tutorial you will move events into Eventonomy, from a file or from another events plugin. You need Eventonomy, the free plugin, and your events as a file, or still on the site in another plugin. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Open the Importer. Know what it can read. Prepare a CSV file. Upload and scan. Then export your events. Step one. Open the Importer. In your WordPress admin, open Eventonomy, then Setup and Health. The screen has three tabs. Click the tab named Importer. Step two. Know what it can read. Source lists two kinds of file: a CSV file, which is a spreadsheet, and an iCalendar file. It can also read five other events plugins: EventON, Events Manager, Sugar Calendar, The Events Calendar and WP Event Manager. When the events of one of them are still on this site, a one-click migration shows on this tab, with a preview and an undo. Step three. Prepare a CSV file. Only one column is required: title. The optional columns hold the start and end, the timezone, the description, the venue and more. Put the old address of each event in the column old path, and visitors who use the old link are sent to the new event. Download a sample CSV gives you a file with the right columns to start from. Step four. Upload and scan. Pick the Source, then choose your file. For an iCalendar, you can paste the address of a feed in place of a file. Then click Upload and scan. The scan creates no events. It shows a report first: how many rows it will create, how many are duplicates, and how many it cannot import. You confirm the report before anything is imported. Importing the same file again skips the rows that are already in. A file import can be undone later, from the panel named Remove imported items, which shows on this tab after an import. Step five. Export your events. The Export tab goes the other way. Export events gives you every event as a CSV file, in the same columns the Importer reads. Use it to move your events to another site, or to keep a backup. Orders have their own export on this tab, and attendees are exported from Attendees and Orders. That is all five. The Importer opened, what it can read known, a CSV file prepared, the upload and scan understood, and your events exported. That is the last tutorial in the series. Your events can now move in, and move out. Next in this series: Find your way around the admin.
