How to run a waitlist in Eventonomy, step by step. Open Eventonomy, then Settings, then Registration and tick Waitlist when full. A full event then shows Join waitlist in place of Register. A member on the waitlist sees their place in the queue on the event page, and the event under Attending, Waitlist in their dashboard. In the Event Workspace, the Attendees tab counts the people on the Waitlist. When a person who is going cancels a free event, the first person waiting moves to Going and gets an email.
In this tutorial you will run a waitlist in Eventonomy, so a full event keeps taking names. You need the free Eventonomy plugin, and an event with a capacity set. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Turn on the waitlist. See a full event as a visitor. See your place as a member. See the waitlist in the admin. Then know what happens when a place opens. Step one. Turn on the waitlist. In your WordPress admin, open Eventonomy, then Settings, then Registration. In the RSVP card, find Waitlist when full. It is ticked on a new site. If yours is not, tick it. With it on, a full event puts new registrations on a waitlist. With it off, they are turned away. Then click Save changes. Step two. See a full event as a visitor. Every place on this event is taken. The registration box says so: This event is full. Join the waitlist. The form is still open. At its foot, the button now reads Join waitlist. Step three. See your place as a member. Now signed in as a member who joined the waitlist. The box reads You are on the waitlist, with the place in the queue. This member is first. Under it, Cancel my registration gives the place in the queue back. In the member dashboard, Attending has a Waitlist tab. It lists every event this member is waiting for. Step four. See the waitlist in the admin. Back in the admin, open the event. On the Overview tab, Seats taken reads six of six. Click the Attendees tab. The row of filters counts three people on the Waitlist. Click Waitlist, and the list shows only the people who are waiting. They are in queue order. The next person in line is at the top. Step five. Know what happens when a place opens. These are the six people who are Going. Only Going counts toward the capacity. When one of them cancels, the first person on the waitlist moves to Going. You do not have to do anything. That person gets an email saying a spot opened up. This is how a free event works. An event that sells tickets has its own waitlist. That is all five. The waitlist turned on, a full event seen as a visitor, a place in the queue seen as a member, the waitlist read in the admin, and what happens when a place opens. A full event now keeps a queue, and fills itself. Next in this series: Manage attendees and export the list.
