Community Notifications (BuddyNext Inbox)
Eventonomy events can now show up in your community's own notification inbox. On a site running BuddyNext, a member sees "Registration confirmed", "Event cancelled" or "Your event was approved" in the same bell as their other community alerts, with a link to the event.
This is in addition to email, not a replacement. Eventonomy does not send a second email for it.
What You Will Learn
- What needs to be installed for the events to appear in the BuddyNext inbox
- Which events produce a community notification
- Who receives them and who does not
- How members switch individual types on or off
What You Need
| Piece | Version |
|---|---|
| Eventonomy | 1.8.0 or later |
| BuddyNext (the inbox side) | 1.2.2 or later |
The inbox side of this lives in BuddyNext 1.2.2. Install both updates together. With an older BuddyNext, Eventonomy still works and still sends its emails; the events simply do not appear in the community inbox. There is nothing to configure in Eventonomy.
With Eventonomy Pro, the New events from people you follow alert joins the list as well (see Discovery & Follow).
Which Events Appear
Eventonomy hands BuddyNext a short message and a link to the event each time it notifies a member. These types are offered:
| Type | When it fires |
|---|---|
| Registration confirmed | Someone else, such as an organizer, registers the member |
| Registration cancelled | The member's registration is cancelled |
| Added to the waitlist | The event was full, so the member was waitlisted |
| Marked as maybe | The member answered maybe |
| Off the waitlist | A spot opened and the member's registration is now confirmed |
| Event reminders | An event the member is attending is coming up |
| Event details changed | The date, time or venue of an event the member registered for changed |
| Event cancelled | An event the member registered for was cancelled |
| Your event was approved | A moderator approved an event the member submitted |
| Your event needs changes | A moderator returned the member's event to drafts |
| Messages from organizers | An organizer sent registrants an update |
| Free ticket received | An organizer gave the member a free ticket |
| Order refunded or cancelled | The member's paid order was refunded or cancelled |
| New events from people you follow (Pro) | An organizer the member follows published a new event |
The wording reuses the sentence Eventonomy already shows in its own in-app feed, so the two never disagree. See In-App & Push Notifications.
Who Receives Them
- Members only. A notification needs a real member account to land in an inbox. Guests are reached by email only, as before.
- Not your own actions. A member who registers themselves does not get a "Registration confirmed" inbox entry for it. If an organizer registers them, they do.
- Not from imports. Events and registrations created by a migration or import do not notify anyone.
- Not admin or receipt mail. The admin "new event submitted" notice, event report alerts, the guest secure-link email and order receipts do not go to the inbox.
Privacy: What a Member Can See
Before an entry is shown, BuddyNext asks Eventonomy whether that member may still see the event. An entry for an event the member cannot view, such as one that has gone back to draft, is not shown. When an event is permanently deleted, its inbox entries are removed.
Switching Types On or Off
Each type above is declared with its own label, description and a default of on, so the inbox can offer one switch per type, for example to mute reminders and keep cancellations. How those switches are presented is BuddyNext's own setting; there is nothing to choose per type in Eventonomy.
