Event Times Look Wrong

How to Set All-Day Events and Choose How Times Are Shown in Eventonomy2:51Chapters and transcript

Eventonomy stores every time in UTC and shows it in the event's time zone. Wrong times almost always trace back to the time zone setting.

Times are off by hours

Symptom: An event set for 7 pm shows at a different hour, or reminders arrive at odd times.

Cause: Your WordPress site time zone is a plain UTC offset such as UTC+0, which is WordPress's default. An offset cannot follow daylight saving changes.

Fix:

  1. Go to Eventonomy → Setup & Health. The row Site timezone is set to a city warns when this is the problem.
  2. Click Timezone settings, or go to Settings → General.
  3. Under Timezone, choose the city your events happen in.
  4. Open the affected events and check their time zone. In the event editor, pick a city from the list. A new event on an offset-based site opens on Choose your city.

Visitors see the organizer's time, not their own

Symptom: Visitors in another country see the event in the organizer's time.

Cause: Timezone display is set to Event time zone, which is the default.

Fix: In Settings → Appearance, change Timezone display to Visitor's time zone, or to Both to show the event time plus the visitor's time when it differs. This changes the display only. Emails and calendar files always use the event time zone.

An all-day event shows a clock time

Symptom: An event reads "12:00 am to 11:59 pm".

Cause: The event was saved before All day was ticked.

Fix: Open the event, tick All day, and save. Starts and Ends become dates only.

A late-evening event shows under the next day

Update to Eventonomy 1.9.0 or later. Date filters and day headings use each event's own local day from that version.

Calendar apps show the wrong hour

Subscribe again to the calendar feed after you fix the site time zone. Recurring events export each date at its exact local time, including across daylight saving changes. See Calendar Feed (ICS).
